
These online courses are designed to provide a continuing education and professional development opportunity for Community Health Workers (CHWs) who have completed entry-level CHW training. Our CEU courses are approved by Oregon Health Authority for Traditional Health Workers.

In this course, the participants will explore the history of the community health worker along with develop a deeper understanding of the various roles of a traditional health worker and the different types of duties and responsibilities each traditional health worker role performs. Participants shall also explore how to work with people from different communities and effective communication strategies, particularly how to communicate when sharing and collecting resources.

In this course, the participants will explore the history of Federally Qualified Health Centers. They will also be introduced to the many ways in which health care is financed, specifically learn more about the differences and similarities between Medicaid and Medicare. Participants will also explore what is intergenerational poverty and the benefits of social service resource locators in supporting patients address some of the contributing factors of intergenerational poverty.

In this course, the participants will explore the many barriers and determinants of health that make it challenging for community members to access the health care they need. They will also learn how to screen for these barriers and determinants, as well as how technology can be used as a tool in the work they do in addressing some potential barriers.

In this course, the participants will explore how to manage referrals and collaborating with their patient to support them with any concerns they identify. As well as learn how part of supporting patients includes providing some legal advocacy and performing community outreach.
